Under UNCTAD-
GOI-DFID Project
Strategies and Preparedness
for Trade and Globalisation in India
United Nations Conference on Trade and
Development (UNCTAD) India Programme, Centre for WTO Studies, New Delhi and
FICCI are jointly organising a National Stakeholder Consultation on WTO
Negotiations
in New Delhi on 8-9 December 2009. Venue of the meeting is Federation House,
Tansen Marg, New Delhi.
The meeting would provide a platform for
two-way interaction between stakeholders and the Department of Commerce on
issues related to some aspects of WTO negotiations, particularly agriculture,
fisheries subsidies, industrial tariffs and services. In industrial tariffs the
discussions are likely to focus on sectors such as textiles and clothing,
leather, electronics, electrical equipment, chemical, auto and auto components,
fish products etc. The meeting would help the Department of Commerce to explain
its stand on key negotiating issues to the stakeholders and to seek their views
on these issues. The stakeholder consultation assumes importance in the context
of Ministerial Conference of the WTO held in Geneva on 30 November – 2 December
2009. The stakeholder consultation would provide an opportunity to the
participants to get informed about the outcome of Geneva Ministerial Conference
of the WTO. The meeting will bring together
representatives of farmer organizations, civil society, consumer organizations,
industry representatives, experts and policy makers.
